Kevin Craig West, who grew up in the Arbor Hill section of Albany, NY, started his acting career as an intern with NYSTI, where he was part of the original cast of A Tale of Cinderella and is also included on the original cast recording produced by Warner Chappell Music. He became an AEA card-carrying professional at Capital Repertory Theatre. Favorite "board treadings" from @theRep are Metamorphoses, RACE, Take me Out, Shakespeare in Love, and Trip to Bountiful.

Nationally, Kevin has been seen as DV Terrance Bryant on NBC’s hit series Law & Order-Organized Crime. Purcell Thompson on STARZ's hit series, Raising Kanan. He's also been spotted in an episode of Marvel's Daredevil: Born Again, NBC’s series' The Blacklist, New Amsterdam, CBS's series' The Good Fight, FBI Most Wanted, AppleTV+'s Extrapolations, and Netflix's Oscar-nominated film, DON'T LOOK UP, working with Meryl Streep as her Secretary of State.

West has received multiple nominations for Best Actor for his starring role in the feature film THE WAY FORWARD, which won Best Feature Film at the 2021 World Independent Cinema Awards in London. He also received an Actor of the Year nomination from the 2021 International Christian Film and Music Festival and the inaugural 'Greatness in the Arts' award from the 2023 Kuumba Film Festival.

As a filmmaker, Kevin Craig West's award-winning and controversially titled short film, I HATE BEING BLACK (of which he does not), was acquired by Indieflix and is playing on Magic Johnson's, AspireTV.

Where are you located?

Based in New York City.

What are your current projects?

Seeking backing for an on-camera limited series to be filmed in New York's Capital District Region, which will involve workforce development.

How did you get started and what led you to where you are today?

My interest in this industry happened one morning in the mid 90's when I was gifted tickets to see the student matinee of the musical BIG RIVER at New York State Theatre Institute. Before intermission occurred, I cemented in my mind that I was to dance and sing on that stage as well. Months later, as an intern, I was singing and dancing on that very stage. I became a sponge, soaking up every bit of knowledge about the industry I could, and vowed never to stop learning.

Has it been a smooth road?

While the road has not always been smooth, it has certainly been adventurous.

Could you tell us more about your life and career?

Having grown up in quite an artistic family, I never really considered myself artistic. Math and science being my forte in school, it seemed I would have leaned more toward a technical career. After time spent with a Combat Engineer Battalion in the Marine Corps and working as a Systems Analyst for the New York State Assembly, my creative juices were finally stirred when asked to participate in a one-performance-only community theater production titled "ROADS TO LIFE."

Kevin Craig West

What does goodness mean to you?

Goodness to me is compassion for others.

Who are you outside of your professional life?

As my professional life requires me to be an emotionally available vessel, I essentially am my professional life, and my professional life is me.

Are you interested in environmental issues?

Yes.

Kevin Craig West

Do you think the world is not in a good place right now?

I think the world is always in some state of its natural ebb and flow, and how we adjust to it is dependent on our personal ebb and flow.

How do you make the world a better place?

I make the world a better place by keeping an open mind.

How can we all make the world better?

I think we make ourselves better by "walking a mile in another man's shoes." This, in my opinion, fosters compassion for our fellow man.

Kevin Craig West

How can science and spirituality coexist?

They naturally coexist. i.e., The Science of Spirituality or The Spirituality of Science.

If you could go anywhere, where would you go, and why?

I'd love to visit the moon just to view Earth from it.
