Verbal attack on the Galata tour group
On Sunday, December 21, the Jewish Culture Tour organized on the final day of the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah came under a verbal attack by a group of 10–12 people in front of the Galata Tower. The Quincentennial Foundation Museum of Turkish Jews published a statement regarding the incident on the X platform.
The Quincentennial Foundation Museum of Turkish Jews stated:
“On Sunday, December 21, the tour group that carried out a Galata sightseeing tour and whose program included our venue was subjected to a verbal attack by a group of 10–12 people while gathering in front of the Galata Tower.
In addition to the publicly accessible tour group of 39 people, police teams assigned by the Istanbul Police Department were present and had taken all necessary security measures. The group carrying Palestinian flags chanted slogans such as “We do not want Zionists in our country.”
Following the incident, during which no physical attack occurred, the tour program continued as planned, and in the final part of the tour, the group visited the Turkish Jewish Museum. The approximately 75–80 visitors inside the museum were also able to leave the building safely under the security measures taken by the police.
We would like to thank the Beyoğlu District Police Department for providing all necessary support from the beginning of the incident until the guests dispersed safely.”
