El Al had stopped the flights to Turkey in March 2007, due to the high security costs. Since then the flights were being operated by Turkish Airlines and Pegasus Airlines. Following the normalization of diplomatic relations and with the increased demand by Israeli passengers, El Al has restarted their commercial flights to Turkey once again.

It is stated that the number of flights planned three times a week will be increased to four in the near future.

Turkey's Ambassador to Israel Şakir Özkan Torunlar expressed that the restarting of the flights strengthens the partnership and relations between the two countries.

As per the Israeli Minister of Tourism Haim Katz, direct flights are expected to increase economic cooperation and tourism between the two countries.
