Karen Gerson was Presented Knighthood Title by Ben Gurion University

Karen Gerson Sharhon, Şalom Newspaper´s Ladino Pages Editor, the originator of the El Amaneser supplement, and the Istanbul Ottoman-Turkish Sephardic Center Coordinator, was presented ´The Knighthood Title (The Orden de Kavalyero del Ladino)´ for her contributions to Ladino, by the ´Moshe David Gaon Center for Ladino Culture´ during a ceremony held at the Ben Gurion University of the Negev, on Tuesday, January 17th.

The 'Knighthood' title was also presented to the Argentinian writer Liliana Benveniste for her contributions to the Ladino language.

Before the ceremony, the Knighthood Title owners Karen Gerson Sharhon, her husband Yusuf Sharhon, Liliana Benveniste and her husband Marcelo Benveniste posed for the cameras at sunset, dressed in authentic knight costumes including swords and shields.

During the ceremony, wooden round plaques were presented to Karen Gerson Sharhon and Liliana Benveniste. After receiving the plaque Karen Gerson Sharhon in her speech said, "Ladino used to be my father's jokes, my mother's quotes, songs, Shabbat, and our family dinners." Liliana Benveniste sang two Ladino songs during the ceremony.
