The newly appointed Turkey's Ambassador to Israel Şakir Özkan Torunlar visited the Chief Rabbinate and came together with the Chief Rabbi Isak Haleva, Turkish Jewish Community co-Presidents Erol Kohen and Isak Ibrahimzadeh, and representatives from the Turkish Jewish Community.

Şakir Özkan Torunlar has become the first ambassador appointed by Turkey to Tel Aviv after 4 years. Torunlar had served as the consul general in Jerusalem and the Palestinian Authority Embassy between 2010 and 2014.

Turkey and Israel had decided to retake diplomatic relations to the maximum level and appoint ambassadors mutually, on August 17th.

Israel had appointed Irit Lillian, who had already been serving in Ankara, as the Israeli Ambassador to Turkey.
