ŞALOM IS 75 YEARS OLD

Avram Leyon's Şalom, which had started its publication life on the Republic Day of 1947, with the Ladino motto "A lo tuerto tuerto, a lo dereço dereço (roughly translated to; To the crooked crooked, to the true true)", with its volunteer editorial staff of over 100 people, is celebrating its 75th birthday today.

Avram Leyon published Şalom, which never abstained from telling the truth, covering the country's developments and community issues, with great dedication for years. Avram Leyon took care of almost everything related to Şalom, even though he had a supportive editorial team, publishing the newspaper as long as his age and health let him.

In the 80s, a group with the vision that Şalom should continue after Avram Leyon, took the courageous steps needed to publish the newspaper under the establishment of 'Gözlem Gazetecilik Basın ve Yayın AŞ (Gözlem Journalism Press and Broadcasting Inc.)'.

In our day, Şalom, which is being followed with interest by both the Turkish Jewish community and the wider society, with its editorial staff of more than a hundred volunteers, its supplements and magazine, its special sections broadcasted in English and Ladino, and its social media accounts followed and read all over the world, has taken its distinguished place in the Turkish Press History.
