Chief Rabbi of Czechia Sidon Visited the Historical Italian Synagogue

The Historical Italian Synagogue Kal de Los Francos welcomed Karol Sidon who has been serving as the Chief Rabbi of the city of Prag and Czechia since 1992, on Thursday, June 30th.

In honor of Czechia's adopting the presidency of the Council of the EU on July 1st, a concert titled 'In the Light of Understanding' implemented by Slovak musician Peter Gyori and via the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Istanbul was organized at the Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall in Istanbul, on the evening of June 30th. The Chief Rabbi of Czechia, Karol Sidon, who was in Istanbul for the concert, also visited the historical Italian Synagogue Kal de Los Francos, on June 30th, accompanied by his wife Ojuna Sidonova and the Consul General of Czechia in Istanbul, Jiří Čistecký.

In the Italian Synagogue, the guests were welcomed by the Istanbul Music Director of the 'In the Light of Understanding' project, Renan Koen's performing the hymn 'Baruch Haba', one of the most valuable works of the synagogue archives from the 'European Sephardic Synagogues' music book, on the harmonium. Later, the Italian Synagogue Board Member Alain Danon gave the visitors some valuable information about the Italian Jewish Community, the synagogue, and the cemetery of the Italian Community and Renan Koen gave information about the music archives, thus ending the visit, and 'Kal de Los Francos' leaving another meaningful mark on the pages of the history.
