Israel’s Independence Day is celebrated in İstanbul
The 69th anniversary of the establishment of the State of Israel was celebrated in a reception held at Hilton Bosphorus Convention Center, hosted by the Consul General Shai Cohen.Karel VALANSİ

During his welcoming speech, Mr. Cohen explained the achievements of Israel in arts, literature, sports, politics, commerce, science and technology. He added that the success of Israel lies in Israel’s diversity and in its achievement in empowering all its citizens; 6.5 million Jews, 1.8 million Arabs, 388 thousand Christians and other minorities. “As a democratic, plural and moral society, Israel ensures freedom of worship and religion for all its citizens, including the minorities in Jerusalem from all monotheistic religions,” he added. He expressed his satisfaction to see the establish of robust relations between Turkey and Israel since the reconciliation agreement in politics, economics, culture, academy, innovation and tourism. He announced that, as a sign of solidarity, the State of Israel has decided to donate a classroom equipped with the latest technologies to the immigrant Syrian children living in Istanbul.
During the reception the Israeli Consulate in Istanbul granted awards to leading companies which have made outstanding contribution to Turkish Israeli relations as well as personal awards to individuals for their lifelong contribution to bilateral bonds. Turkish Airlines, Koc Holding, Zorlu, Ormat, ICDAS, Bazan Group, Netafim, and Bank Hapoalim received the award for their contribution to bilateral trade. Ishak Alaton, Üzeyir Garih and Jak Kamhi received a lifelong achievement award for their significant contribution to Turkish-Israeli relations. Their children Leyla Alaton, Dalia Garih and Jefi Kamhi received the awards on behalf of their fathers.
Israel’s ambassador to Ankara, Eitan Na’eh, Chief Rabbi Rav Isak Haleva, the president of Turkish Jewish Community Ishak Ibrahimzadeh and members of the Turkish Jewish community also attended the celebration. Israeli national day continued with a dinner reception and the lovely songs of Buket Bahar.
