Via the decree signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Şakir Özkan Torunlar was appointed as the ambassador to Israel.

Şakir Özkan Torunlar became the first ambassador appointed by Turkey to Tel Aviv after 4 years. Torunlar had served as the consul general in Jerusalem and the Palestinian Authority Embassy between 2010 and 2014.

Turkey and Israel, on August 17th, had decided to retake diplomatic relations to the maximum level and appoint ambassadors mutually.

The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs had issued a written statement in September, concerning the diplomat assignments in the representative offices abroad.

In the statement, it was expressed that Irit Lillian who has already been serving in Ankara had been appointed as the Israeli Ambassador to Turkey.
