Some People Just Want More: "Materialists" Moshe Rafaela Athias, who was a very important member of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Jewish community, was also known as Zeki Efendi because he liked dressing Turish style (alaturka). As the hero of Jewish-Muslim cooperation, his tombstone is the only Jewish tombstone that is written in Ottoman, Hebrew and Latin (Bosnian), all on one stone, thus being the symbol of multicultural mentality of the region.
Zeki Efendi's tombstone in Sarajevo, which is a very important symbol that different religions can live in peace and harmony for centuries, was damaged during the war in Bosnia, in 1990. The tombstone is renovated by TIKA - Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency.
