"Halet-i Ruhiye (State of Mind)" Exhibition at Schneidertempel

Schneidertempel Arts Center is hosting the "Halet-i Ruhiye [meaning "State of Mind" in Ottoman Turkish]" Exhibition consisting of the drawings of printmaking and caricature artist Muhammet Şengöz.

The exhibition inaugurated on October 12th includes Şengöz's works painted on paper with materials matching the flowing and unsteady states of the soul such as watercolor, ink, and Ecoline watercolor. The artist who sometimes includes in his work compositions accompanied by unfamiliar depictions of familiar figures such as fish, bulls, and birds, uses high-contrast bright colors. The exhibition may be visited until November 6th.

Born in Izmit, Turkey, in 1964, Şengöz graduated from the Graphic Design Department of Marmara University Faculty of Arts in 1987. He completed his master's degree and "Proficiency in Art (equivalent to PhD)" at the same university. He won 66 awards in national and international caricature and printmaking competitions. He drew daily caricatures in the Özgür Kocaeli Newspaper for many years. He is still drawing caricatures and illustrations for various magazines. He has four caricature books published. He currently works as a lecturer at the Graphic Design Department of Topkapı University.
