37 Years Have Passed Since the September 6, 1986 Neve Shalom Terror Attack

On the morning of Saturday, September 6th, 2 terrorists of foreign nationality had attacked the Jewish people who were praying their Shabbat prayers at the Neve Shalom Synagogue, with bombs and machine guns.

Jak Samrano, Gabi Şaul, Yusuf Levi, Eliya Dana, and Moiz Bitiren had miraculously survived the attack. Those who had lost their lives during the attack were buried in a special section of the Ulus Ashkenazi Cemetery, following the funeral held at the Neve Shalom Synagogue on September 10, 1986.

The Neve Shalom Synagogue had been reopened for worship on May 20, 1987, with a crowded ceremony also attended by government officials. However, the bullet and bombing marks on the marble in the upper left corner of Ehal (the cabinet where the Torah scrolls are stored) had not been repaired and left exactly as they were so that that painful day would not be forgotten.
