Ulus Jewish School hosted the Centropa 2019 Professional Development Seminar

The Seminar which takes place annually in a different city in Europe, took place in Istanbul Ulus Jewish School for the first time, hosting 40 teachers from 16 different countries. Among the countries attending the seminar were Croatia, Finland, Spain, Italy, Ukraine, Germany, Hungary, Israel, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey.

Centropa is a nonprofit educational institute, dedicated to preserve and revive the Jewish history. The institute is conducting collective studies in an interdisciplinary way, with instructors from 20 different European countries, via 21^st century methods, trying to construct a historical, sociological and a Holocost related educational database, using the Jewish family stories.

The special bookmarks that Ulus Jewish School’s students encoded and designed especially for each participant’s name and then printed on the school’s 3D printer, received a great admiration.

At the end of the seminar, History and English teachers from Koç Schools, Hisar Schools, Sev American College and Robert College in Istanbul, conducted a special one day study with the Centropa Director Marcell Kenesei and Centropa Coordinator Borbala Pal. In this study the new objectives were set in using the Centropa educational tools in other schools as well.

It is a heartwarming story that narrates the harmony of differences and the friendship that arises from this harmony. The creators of the characters Penga and Menga are Vivet Pitelon Sparkes and her son Jim Sparkes. Also, the illustrations in the "Holidays" series (consisting of 11 books) designed for children, belong to both of them. The stories are written and translated into English (from Turkish) by Vivet.

Ulus Jewish Schools Middle School´s young tech geniuses achieved great success in the 10th Başahşehir Living Lab Innovation Competition. In the competition where 220 projects from all over Turkey have competed with the "Innovative ideas are competing" motto, UÖMO students, standing out from their rivals with their "Natural Disaster Kit", came third in the middle school category.
