Turkish Jewish Community gave a statement to Salom concerning the issue. The statement is as follows:

‘’On Sunday, June 24th, on the day of the general elections in Turkey, a poster containing hate speech directed at Jews was spotted by an election observer inside the school. After he posted the picture of the poster on Twitter, Turkish Jewish Community immediately and solemnly conveyed the issue to MEB at the highest level.

Provincial Director of Education Mr. Omer Faruk Yelkenci personally responded to our request and had the poster removed, immediately. Also, Ministry of Education started investigating the issue on the order given by our MEB minister Mr. Ismet Yilmaz.

On Wednesday, June 28th, inspectors appointed by our Minister paid a visit to Turkish Chief Rabbinate and informed us that the investigation continues with sensitivity.

Upon our written request regarding checking all educational institutions for posters with similar content to prevent such ideas reflecting animosity, hate, and discrimination being inflicted on our children, Provincial Director of Education Mr. Omer Faruk Yelkenci replied with a letter. In his letter, Mr. Yelkenci described the poster in question and the related images as a manifestation of ignorance and stated that they can never be accepted. He added that the issue caused serious concern and affliction, on their part. Mr. Yelkenci also clearly emphasized in his letter that all schools will be checked with uttermost sensitivity and necessary precautions will be taken through education to prevent such unacceptable incidents reflecting ignorance.

Turkish Jewish Community posted a tweet on Community’s Twitter account thanking first and foremost our Education Minister Mr. Ismet Yilmaz, Undersecretary Mr. Yusuf Tekin and Provincial Director of Education Mr. Faruk Yelkenci for their rapid and effective action.”
