Izmir Synagogues Exhibition in Thessaloniki

The photographs that the photographer Mihail Sakatis took, shed light on the rich Jewish culture and life that once existed in Izmir. In the exhibition, 20 photographs showing Bikur Holim, Bet Israel, Şalom, Algazi, and Sinyora synagogues, the old Rabbinate (Hahamhane), Karataş Hospital, the old Cortijos (Kortejos - the old farmhouses) and Sabbatai Zevi's house will be displayed.

Photography artist Mihail Sakatis is describing the photos he took as such: "This photography exhibition documenting the historical Izmir Synagogues will help us imagine how some Thessaloniki Synagogues would have been today if the 1917 fire and the Nazi atrocities had not been lived."

Thessaloniki Jewish Community's Head David Saltiel and the Community Council Members are expected to attend the opening ceremony of the exhibition that will be opened in the Thessaloniki Jewish Museum located on the Agiou Minas Street, on February 5th.
