Sephardic Cuisine Promoted at the Historic Italian Synagogue

Italy’s Consul General in Turkey Elena Sgarbi, Italy’s Consul in Turkey Gabriele Ingrosso, Co-President of Turkish Jewish Community Erol Kohen and his wife, Community Foundations Representative Moris Levi and guests from Italian Embassy attended the event at the Italian Synagogue where Sephardic cuisine was promoted.

President of Italian Synagogue Rifat Behar who spoke at the event at his speech said, “Traditions are important elements that form a community. Our cultural legacy, habits, knowledge and behaviors do not change because we attach special importance to them. Today, if they are still the same even after 530 years, it’s because of our traditions. Sephardic cuisine is a part of Jewish people’s traditions who were forced to move from Spain 530 years ago. The Sephardic cuisine has survived for many generations thanks to our mothers who passed them on to next generations. We would like to thank Viki Koronyo and Sima Ovadya who wrote the book ‘Sephardic Cuisine’.”
