As part of its “Basic Human Rights and Democratic Values Education Through the Life Story of Anne Frank” project which was launched in 2017, Social and Ecological Rights Organization SEHAK launched its second event, last week. On October 18th, SEHAK organized Anne Frank exhibition and Holocaust education seminars, in Izmir. Last year, the exhibition and the seminars were held in Istanbul.

On October 18th, Anne Frank Exhibition opened its doors to visitors at historic Portuguese Synagogue, in Kemeralti district.  The theme of the exhibition was Anne Frank’s life story and World War II. The exhibition was open until October 28th.

Also, in Izmir, SEHAK organized educational seminars about Holocaust and human rights for educators on October 20th and for students on October 21st. The content of the unique lectures was prepared by experts from Sociology and Education Studies Application and Research Center (SECBIR).

Head of Sociology Department, Bilgi University Prof. Dr. Kenan Cayir, history teacher Ayse Alan, anthropologist Ýsil Demirel, and SEHAK instructor Ozden Donmez were the lecturers in the seminars.   40 participants were chosen to attend the seminars, this year.

While the seminars aim to educate participants about Holocaust, its background and its mindset, they also aim to create educators and students who are able to study history using critical thinking approaches. The seminars are in high demand since they provide the educational materials generated in Turkey about Holocaust.
